The gite Le Soleil gite is located on the border of the Dordogne and the Lot-et-Garonne department.
Le Soleil Dordogne is close to two villages where you can get fresh baguettes and other groceries daily, Sauveterre-la-Lémance and Villefranche-du-Perigord. These villages are approximately 5 km from your holiday home. You will find various shops such as a bakery, grocery, cafe, pharmacy and a post office. An ATM machine and some cozy restaurants can only be found in the medieval village of Villefranche-du-Perigord. There is also a tabac where various newspapers (Dutch, Belgian and English-language newspapers) are sold.
Characteristic of a Bastide village is that it is often high up with a market hall in the middle. Some Bastide villages in the area are:
- Monpazier – 20km
- Villefranche-du-Perigord – 5km
- Beaumont-du-Perigord – 36km
- Villereal 74km
- Penne d’Agenais
- Tournon d’Agenais
There are a number of medieval places such as Cahors and Puy Lévêque. Cahors is one of the larger places. The old city center is on a peninsula. Puy Lévêque is built on the slopes next to the river Lot.
Sarlat La Caneda and Bergerac are two larger medieval towns in the Dordogne department with old, narrow, atmospheric streets with many restaurants. There is a large market in both cities on Saturday. Well worth a visit.
Local markets
Within 30 to 45 minutes there are various weekly markets with many local products such as duck, nuts, cheeses and wines, but also fruit and vegetables. In addition, there are various night markets where you can eat the purchased products directly at long tables. Of course the wine is not missing. In the house book is a list with the various markets.
